Amber’s human life was filled with cruelty, but now, as a vampire, she can prey on those who think they can harm others.
Marcus is the trainer of new vampires but has no mate. He realizes he is running out of time before he becomes rogue.
When he begins to train Amber, Marcus realizes she could be his mate, but both will have to overcome their past mistakes before they can fight for their future.
Amber is an interesting heroine, but it took me a while to care about her. However, by the end, I began to embrace her attitude. Marcus is the ‘suffering at the end of my existence’ type of vampire hero who finds a reason to live - and I love that he is blond. I enjoyed reading the changes Amber and Marcus make in their thought processes as their relationship develops. Amber is at a point where those who had hurt her could now be her victims, but instead found a reason for care and compassion. This book is written in a way that makes the pair wonderfully empathetic and exciting. The supporting characters have almost equal billing in the story, and the only problem I have with this is that I would prefer they had their own story as they are pretty hot themselves. Speaking of hot, the sex is excellent. From hot and demanding to hot and giving, all acts are gratifyingly sexy. Since the story is split between couples, I would love a sequel as the couples move into the next phase of their lives. Hint, hint to Ms Day.
