Monica Geary is a ten year veteran of the award winning daytime drama The Wild and the Free. She is successful and rich, but her role as Roxie may be in jeopardy if the young new buxom blond on the set has anything to say about it. She needs to bump up her image and fast.

Eric Mitchell is the new man on the roster for the New York Blades hockey team. His first impression to his team mates leaves a lot to be desired. Not only do they think he is a complete jerk, but his performance on the ice is pathetic.

Monica meets Eric for the first time as he does a guest appearance on her soap. The only thing that comes to mind is; what an absolutely arrogant jerk he is. So when her publicist suggests using him as a romance for the press, she is horrified. Eric is thrilled to be going out with Monica; he just knows that she will fall all over him given the chance. They come to a mutual agreement to pose as a couple; hoping that it will boost both of their careers. However one can only pretend for so long before real feelings get caught up in the mix. What is real, and what is an act? Monica cannot trust herself to recognize the real Eric. Is he the tender caring man she knows privately, or the superficial ego inflated jock known to his teammates?

Fear is a strong motivator for Monica and Eric; fear of rejection and failure. They want so much to be accepted and loved, but it is easier to hide behind sarcasm and arrogance. Ms. Martin makes it so easy to adore her characters. They are lovingly flawed and completely irresistible. We all know that jock that needs to be brought down a few pegs, and Eric fills that roll splendidly. This is a great read, and yet another hit in the New York Blades series.
