Paranormal Romance/Red Hots
Rating: 4 Cups
Gabe Morrow, an investigative reporter, is at the wrong place at the wrong time. Working with his partner, on a police corruption story, they are at San Quentin to see an informant when shots are fired. Now his partner is dead, Gabe has become a vampire, and the woman cop he meets is hot.
Tanith Kalinski, a San Francisco Police Inspector, is fascinated with vampires. In fact, she loves vampires to the point she is fixated on them. After her friend loses her husband during a shooting at San Quentin, Tanith hooks up with a steamy, hot vampire who knows how to push the right buttons.
Tanith dreams of being with a tall, handsome man with brains. After her best friend’s husband dies during a shooting, Tanith is there for her friend, while trying to solve the murder. She needs a break in her life, so decides to go with a dating service. After an experience at San Quentin, Gabe is living the vampire life. When he wishes to find chicks, he calls Fangly, My Dear -- a dating service. After being introduced to Tanith, he realizes it could cause some problems with his investigation while treading on his heart.
I love the character of Tanith and can see why she is bewitched by Gabe. I can almost hear that husky voice of his when he speaks. I like when she blushes, and Gabe instantly is attracted. The passion sizzles; the dialogue is crisp, and the plot wonderfully done. One can almost share in the hunger that interacts between them. Playing With Matches lives up to its title while oozing with blazing fiery heat. Mardi Ballou creates a mesmerizing read that keeps the reader spellbound. With intense action, steamy romance and a dynamite couple, one cannot go wrong with this story.
