ONCE A REBEL

Galen Stewart’s life has been anything but golden. She has been treated like dirt since coming to America, and worst of all, her parents gave her away. Her foster father raped her, then she accidentally caused his death and ran away. Now, Galen is hiding behind the façade of a harlot by working in a saloon, tricking her johns with a tonic, and robbing them while they “sleep.” She does whatever she needs to do in order to survive. But someone is trying to pin murders on her; murders she did not commit.
Joshua Hassett, a former Sheriff, is now a bounty hunter. He takes a job from Galen's foster father’s brother to hunt down the woman responsible for his brother’s death. But he takes the job for his own reasons. He wants to know what happened to his sister who went missing some years back. He believes Galen might have some answers.
During his travels, Joshua stumbles upon Galen and is bewitched by her. As things start to heat up between them, they are surrounded by lies and murder. They discover secrets of the past and some are horrible truths. With both their lives on the line, they need to clear Galen’s name and find the real killer. Do they have enough time before the murderer kills them?
Once a Rebel keeps you on the edge of your seat. It has bad guys, good guys, and everything in between. Its plot employs every emotion there is. You cannot sit through this book without feeling what the characters feel. It is hard to pick one word to describe this exceptional read by Ms. Ashton. I am delighted to see that the others on the Orphan Train are in the process of getting their own stories. I look forward to them.
