Grace Banbury has lost everything she has held dear, her home and the violin that her father left her. How did she lose these things? She did not do it herself, her mother lost it all in a card game. She turns to her brother for help only to find he is not in much better shape.

Daniel Throckmorten never expected to find a woman in the house he won in a card game. Upon seeing Grace he is taken with her and decides she should be his next mistress. He confronts her with the full truth of the bet her mother made... her hand in marriage. He makes a bet with her that she will become his mistress in two weeks time.

Grace finds Daniel persistent in his goal to make her his mistress. She does her best to stay away from him but he appears everywhere. She is not at all shocked to see a side of Daniel that he does not allow the public to see and soon finds herself falling in love with him. When she is threatened by an admirer, Daniel is there acting as her protector. But could there be more to it than him wanting to protect the woman he envisions as his mistress?

Gayle Callen has written another wonderful book. I was hooked from the very first page. Her characters are strong and very determined which makes for an enjoyable read. She gives the reader a reason to become a fan. I loved the twists and turns and the excitement she gives the story. This book is so romantic I was in tears at the end. This is one historical romance that deserves a place on a romance readers bookshelf.
