Patience ran away with an actor at the age of fourteen, she soon learned her mistake but was rejected by her family. She is now presented with an opportunity that she can not turn down; to be the companion of the sister of the Earl of Ramscar.

Ram is determined to get his sister to London. She fears that her scars will make people ridicule her. The rakish Ram loves Meredith but is determined to get back to his pursuits with the other “noble savages.” Patience is the perfect solution and a temptation besides.

A rakish earl hires an actress to play companion to his sister on her debut in London Society. He does not realize the secrets that Patience is keeping from him or the danger that follows her. Patience is of good birth, but a scandal and the death of the man who lured her away may ruin her chances at a new life.

Despite the slightly improbable premise of a doting brother hiring an actress to be a companion to his sheltered sister, this story grabbed me from the very beginning. Patience is a resourceful and brave woman struggling to survive in an unfriendly world. For this reason she is very good for the Lady Meredith who is hiding from the world. Her romance with Ram progresses fairly quickly and the love scenes are very well done. The subplots of Meredith’s entry into society and her own romance and the series of robberies in Ton homes add much to the story. I loved the other characters, particularly Scrimm, the duchess and the other savages. The author does a wonderful job of setting the scene and creating memorable characters in this very good historical romance.
