Fonnie Beachum cannot believe that she is in a nursing home. She feels that she should be able to live a full life in her own home even though she had a stroke. She finds herself not wanting to make friends and with nothing to do she waits and spends time alone. That is until she finds herself involved in a mystery.
Brian is Fonnie's grandson and when he comes to visit her, she tells him how she believes that her roommates death was suspicious. Even though his mother does not believe Fonnie, he does. He tells her that he wants to become a police officer and jumps in and starts researching the suspects Fonnie gives him. With his help, he realizes they just might catch a murderer.
As Fonnie gathers what information she can, she writes it down and keeps clues that are being left on the bulletin board close at hand. When the police detective comes to question the residents of the home, Fonnie tells him what she believes and just as she thought, he brushes her off. But when two more residents are murdered, the police know that they have a killer on the loose. Can Fonnie with the help of Brian solve the deaths or will she be the next victim?
Ms. Goodman has written a remarkable mystery, though it is a bit slow at times. I found it to be intriguing and the character of Fonnie is wonderful. The storyline is rich in plot and has the makings of a must read book. I was completely stumped as to who the murderer was and it is rare that I read a mystery that does that to me. I was held captive when the story really started rolling along. This book is a good read for an afternoon indoors.
