Rosa, a beautiful singer, knows about the Watchers, and has an attraction to their ‘Latin lover’, Vane. When circumstance throws them together, Rosa worries that her heart will be a victim of Vane’s fickle ways, but there is another reason to be afraid.
Vane kills Rogue vampires and has a lustful look on life and women. When he finally finds the one lady who captures his heart, he is uncertain. As he tries to develop a real relationship with Rosa, danger arrives in the form of an evil vampire.
Rosa and Vane try to love while protecting their own hearts, but the vampire, Evan, is putting their affair and the Watchers into danger. Will the two find a way to open their hearts while defeating Evan’s plans, along with another source of evil?
Rosa is a different type of heroine and her self-doubts give me pause, though she redeems herself eventually. Vane is great, and the changes he makes for Rosa are charming. I enjoy watching their relationship build, but it never completely captivates, mainly due to Rosa’s actions early in the novel. The dialogue is very dramatic, but touching when between the lovers. It is not necessary to read the first book of the series, but it may help get a better feel for the characters. There are no questions about the sequels as they are well set up. The book has fast-paced action that progresses well. The sex is good and well integrated into the story. I look forward to the next book in the Watcher series.
