Journalist Dylan Alexander takes a second-hand trip to Europe and ends up on the darkest adventure of her life. Led to a secret tomb in the mountains by a spectral vision, she finds strange symbols painted on the ancient walls, one of which exactly matches the unusual birthmark she bears.
His life and body shattered by betrayal, Breed warrior Rio has vowed to protect his brethren by sealing off the cave. He tells no one of his intent to stay on the inside when it happens. Now a mortal woman upsets his plans and threatens to expose him and the entire vampire race.
Thrown together by circumstance and drawn to each other by a primal attraction, Dylan and Rio must work together to assuage an evil older and more sinister than the world could ever imagine. But life and their pasts may come between them as their hearts grow closer. Even as danger closes in, Dylan must choose: to stay in the life she knows or to follow her instincts into the dark unknown with the man she craves.
To sum up this author and this story in four words I would say - I am a new fan; or, maybe, this book is delicious! My first foray into Lara Adrian’s paranormal world of vampires, I was most pleasantly greeted by fascinatingly complex characters, a solid story structure, and a beautiful and carefully erected love story. Even dropped in mid-series as I was, I still felt I knew and understood the back story, as the people who inhabit it are so vibrantly penned. This is fine storytelling. Midnight Rising is fangs down, one of the hottest and best books I have read all year.
