Mallory Russo, forced from her job as a detective, is hired by Robert Magellan, a man whose own wife and child disappeared a while back. She is hired as a PI to find the missing teens and two other teens that were fatally shot. What she uncovers with the help of a new detective Charlie Wanamaker is something that is totally unbelievable.
Charlie Wanamaker had left town years before, but has some family issues that he must take care of and he has transferred to the local police department to accomplish that. It is a challenge, but he is hoping he can make the right decisions. He also is collaborating in finding out what happened to the two missing teens. A pure mystery that, when it starts to unravel, is so bizarre.
Charlie and Mallory find themselves attracted to each other while working this case and a budding relationship is formed. Yet, while this investigation is going on, another is on the forefront as well; a sniper is taking random shots at unsuspecting people. The police need to get this shooter as well as find the missing or dead teens. Meanwhile, Robert is mourning the disappearance of his own wife and child. Yet someone close to him believes she can find out what happened to them and will stop at nothing to give the man she has fallen in love with what he needs to move on.
Mercy Street is a very intriguing story. It has more than one story running through it and many characters for each scenario, yet they work together and are not confusing at all. The real life situations that many characters must deal with make them all too human. This book has many twists that will surprise you, the reader. I found reading Mercy Street by Ms. Stewart very entertaining and wished that some character's stories would continue. To my delight this is the first book in a series that I am sure will expand on those continuations. I anxiously await the next book.
