Eleanor Borona is a hybrid elf. She has repeatedly tried to run away from the “prison” she has been put in. If only she could get through the cold mountain pass to get to Gildon, she would be free and could attend college there. Instead, she is stuck with a man she thinks hates her. If only she didn’t love him, things would be easier.
Erick, King Frederick of Biston, is none to happy that Eleanor is back in his life. She is all grown up from and is more than tempting with her elfin pheromones. But he hates her, or thinks he does. He is bitter about what he lost in the past war and has a hard time seeing what has been right in front of him the whole time.
As events keep bringing Eleanor and Erick together, they spar at just about every meeting. Only she knows what truly happened in the past and who Erick has become enamored with after the masquerade. Erick has a hard time focusing on the present, his thoughts remain in the past. Can he see what fate has lined up for him before it becomes too late?
This is an odd yet slightly entertaining read. The characters are very complex and have many issues they must deal with. However, I felt lost in the beginning trying to piece the story together. By the time I reached the middle I was beginning to enjoy this quirky read. If you are a fantasy lover who also enjoys their stories “hot” then this is a book for you.
