Sophie Pierson is a librarian and lover of books. While she appears to be living a fairly staid life on the outside, her inner life is anything but staid. She is going through Mac’s uncle’s library and getting the books there into order and cataloging them.
MacAllister Kincaid is staying at his uncle’s home while he is in the hospital. His family owns and operates a chain of hotels, and he is planning on using the time to relax and unwind.
When Sophie goes to a masquerade ball with her best friend, where anything goes sexually, she does not really think anyone is going to take a second look at her full figure. However, she is wrong, because Mac appears and has eyes only for her. They have one night of blistering sex, where Sophie keeps her mask on and her anonymity. While Sophie wants Mac more with each new encounter, she wishes he could see the “real” her. Sophie is afraid to trust Mac with who she really is, will she take the plunge, or keep her secret, possibly losing the love of her life?
Masquerade is so smokin’ hot that I would not have been surprised to see my monitor go up in flames! The sex is scorching, but it is not long before Sophie and Mac connect emotionally, and that is when the fireworks really start. I really enjoyed the fact that Sophie is written as a beautiful woman even though she is full-figured. That is one stereotype that Ms. Black did an excellent job breaking. Mac’s confusion as he tries to figure out why he is so attracted to both Sophie and her alter ego is very funny. Compelling and emotionally intensive, Masquerade is one book you will not want to miss!
