Rating: 3 Cups
Heather Thompson is starting over; a new city, a new job, and no fiancé. She feels dreadful having cancelled the wedding to Ross, but she knows in her heart it was the right thing to do. Now she intends to make it on her own, and London seems like the perfect place to start.
Dr. Archie Carew is a month out from leaving the one thing he spent his life working for; his career. He needs to return home to Scotland and run the family estate. He owes it to all the people who make their livelihood there, and especially to the memory of his brother.
Leaving pediatric medicine is the last thing Archie wants to do, but he has no choice. It is his fault that his brother is dead, and now he must face the consequences. However leaving Heather is now a more dreadful proposition than leaving his career. He cannot believe how much he feels for a woman he barely knows. Heather is scared that she may lose the one and only man she has ever loved, but she is certain that neither she nor Archie are ready for a commitment. She was almost married only a few months ago, and if it was not for a stranger’s advice, she may have gone ahead with it. That stranger turned out to be Archie, and their unexpected reunion at the hospital was a jolt to her heart. Their lives are pulling them in different directions, but their hearts know exactly where they want to be. How can they possibly reconcile the two?
Guilt is a powerful demon to live down, and both Archie and Heather have their fair share. They both hurt the people they loved, and now they feel they must pay a penance. Ms. Taylor presents two characters that have a sincerity and compassion that really blossoms throughout the story. The reader feels instantly connected in their struggle between love and responsibility. Please indulge; Ms. Taylor’s work is a delight to read.
