Nicole de Leon is a princess of the Plantagenet line; Norman on one side and Welsh on the other. She is the king’s ward and she expects that he will pick her husband as he has for her two sisters. Now she lives at a convent and waits.

Rhodi ap Daffyd is a bard and a warrior, waiting for his chance to compete for a better position. In the meantime, his liege has sent him to retrieve his niece from her convent home.

Nicole’s guardian, King Stephen, has decided that she will be married to a Welsh chieftain. Her uncle agrees, but is uneasy about which one will be chosen, so he sends his own man to bring her to Wales so that she might marry the man of his choice. This is easier said than done.

This is an interesting medieval novel with a twist; the heroine sees dead people and is compelled to help them cross over. The most persistent is her brother William, but she refuses to help him. He wants her to avenge his death by killing her beloved brother-in-law. She is reluctant to defy her guardian, but circumstances lead her into a great adventure and true love. Rhodi is a gallant character; a true knight, with a magical talent for music. Their romance is very well done with many ups and downs as they run from the Earl of Oxford to Nicole’s home at Camelen. I really enjoyed this one and recommend it as well as the stories of the other two de Leon princesses.
