Peyton Shields is in her first year of residency at the Children’s Hospital in Boston. She works hard to become head resident one day. After an accident leaves her life in jeopardy, she gets the impression her husband does not believe it was deliberate, suspecting she is only being paranoid.
Kevin Stokes does not like the cold winters of Boston. Even though he works for a prestigious law firm, he often feels his work is unrewarding. Of late his marriage to Peyton has felt the same but things are about to become more serious for them.
When a crazed boyfriend enters the children’s hospital, Peyton fires a warning shot, only to learn later she has nicked one of the nurses. Before Peyton knows it, she is slapped with a criminal lawsuit, along with reckless endangerment. That is nothing compared to being deliberately run off the road, and crashing into an icy cold pond. She manages to survive with some emotional trauma, not to mention losing the baby. Kevin never knew she was pregnant. Then again they have been distant for awhile. He is busy having an affair with a friend and colleague, Sandra. If things were not already bad for the couple, someone leaves a red rose at Peyton’s front door, making Kevin ponder if Peyton has found someone. The couple find themselves torn by many events in their lives that lead to kidnapping and murder. The only question is, who is out to destroy them, and why.
Lying with Strangers had me completely spellbound. The intense drama, not to mention adrenaline rush and riveting action still plays in my head. Every time I tried to put the book down, I kept turning the pages. Even when I finished it, I opened it up to read again. James Grippando skillfully masters a best seller on my list. This gripping novel, with a diversity of characters, tugged at me never once letting go. Peyton and Kevin are brilliantly portrayed in a way; I felt I shared a connection with them. With an ingenuous plot, mingled with a touch of terror, Mr. Grippando pens an extraordinary suspense with non-stop action at its best. Hold onto your seats, this is one high-flying read that thrills, while keeping the reader guessing until the end.
