Lucas Keifer runs a local bookstore and for the most part keeps to himself. He has been a victim of a near deadly crime and just wants to live a quiet life alone and keep his past private and that includes Nicholas, the man Lucas loves and cannot have.

Nicholas Demetris is the local sheriff and he has known and loved Lucas since he moved back to town. After being shot in the line of duty, he found out that Lucas loved him, but it is an uphill battle to prove that Lucas is worth loving and that he is meant for only Nicholas.

Nicholas is bound and determined to save Lucas from himself and for himself, if he has anything to do with it. The man that raped and almost killed Lucas has been set free on a technicality, and he is back to finish the job he left undone. It is up to Nicholas to protect Lucas and capture this madman before he hurts anyone else. He has already tried to kill Nicholas, and both men know this man is out for blood. Can the love they feel keep them together just when things get heated up and danger is lurking in the shadows to come pull them apart forever?

I loved this story, it has everything in it you can think of including romance, adventure, passion, and of course love. This is not the first book I have read of Ms. Davis, and to be honest, it will certainly not be the last. You are hooked into this from the first with a prison scene and it captures you throughout. All you can do is root for the good guys and hope the bad guy is caught fast before someone gets killed.
