Mercy Clarke did not need a man.  She was 27 years old, a widow, and a rancher.  She
had just moved a hundred head of mixed Hereford and Longhorn cattle from Fort
Victory, Colorado Territory to Abilene, Texas.  Mercy even pocketed $18 a head.

Thad Buchanan needed a woman.  He was a war veteran that had lost everything to the
Yankees except his sister, Clarisse.  He could cook, win at poker, and make a great cup
of coffee.  Thad had $75 for Mercy to guide him to his sister in Fort Victory when Mercy
returned to Colorado Territory.

With her Colt and Sharps rifle, Mercy was going to get that $1,000 back to Arthur
Lansing so she would not lose her ranch.  What she did not know was who was behind
the bullets that were making it impossible to get her buckskin jacket home without holes
in it.

Teresa Bodwell’s latest historical romance is a delight.  Her gutsy female lead is so well
done that you can almost feel the saddle and those sore muscles.  The plot has
refreshing detours and the characters were excellently done.  I thoroughly enjoyed this
not-your-everyday romance.  Make room for a new book in your library.  You must have
this one.
