Lily’s life is going through a major change. Her husband has just dumped her for a conniving bimbo. To make matters worse, she has just turned fifty, a very young fifty, but still fifty.
Will has left his lawyer career in New York under a cloud, but is reinventing himself with the legacy his great aunt left him, the family nursery business. He is now studying to be a master gardener and the McVay house will definitely enhance his reputation.
A newly divorced woman is facing the task of restoring her late mother-in-law’s famous garden as a condition of her divorce settlement. Her ex has not given her any support or extra funding for the project, and the local botanical garden’s Master Gardener program has provided a very handsome, young and talented gardener to help her.
This story has a very strong plot. Lily has been dumped in the worst way, but Howard is really no loss, and he deserves Heather. I loved Lily’s friends Helen and Marilee and how three women so different could be so close. Will is a wonderful character and he got better when he decided to grow up. The subplots of the “carwash king” and his ex, and Marilee’s search for a career were interesting and funny at times and the Helen’s health issues and Mother McVay’s love life were more serious. This author knows a lot about the nursery business and that knowledge adds so much to the story. In the end, both the garden and Lily get a wonderful new life free of old debris and weeds.
