Meredith Gentry is a princess and one of the heirs to the throne of the Unseelie Court; and so is her sadistic and some say mad, cousin, Cel. Even with the powers Merry and her guards have gained; the closer she gets to the prize the more complex and dangerous her path becomes.

Merry’s magic is getting stronger, sometimes growing beyond her control, those who it touches it changes and not always for the better. It is said that the Goddess favors Merry, but can she live with the choices the Goddess makes for her? With a war between the Seelie and Unseelie courts threatening, she may never get the chance.

The Killing Frost and The Darkness are Merry’s two favorite among her royal guard, however she knows that if she has a child by one, she will lose the other. Queen Andais has promised that when Merry becomes pregnant, she will make them all pay for abandoning her. Amazingly, enough, this is the least of their worries because her uncle, the King of the Seelie Court has leveled a very serious charge against three of Merry’s royal guard, one that could land them in the human’s jail, which could mean death to many of them. However, Merry is finally realizing that her Uncle Taranis may have something much worse than death in mind for her.

Merry is one of my favorite heroines because she is just so comfortable in her own skin. In the Merry Gentry series, each character is so full of life that they come off as colorful as their rainbow hued skin and I always find myself thinking of them long after I have closed the book. I picked up Ms Hamilton’s first books, and loved them because she showed that women could write blood and gore with great flair, and A Lick of Frost is that and more. This story is a page-turning thrill ride filled with great action, scorching sex scenes, Sidhe court politics, along with heart wrenching scenes that made me cry. I picked up this book and could not put it down until I finished it. This is yet another masterpiece from Ms Hamilton and I for one cannot wait for more.
