Victoria Reed cannot believe her father has married her off. She had grown accustomed to her father’s drunken tirades and ramblings, but pawning her off to a man she detests, and curses often, is something she is not happy with until she sees Justin.
Justin Talbot, the Earl of Baybary, is a man of many secrets. Blackmailed into a marriage that was supposed to be in name only, he had no idea Victoria would strike a match to his heart; one that he is not ready to openly admit how much he cares.
Victoria understands her duties to Justin as his wife, but she had no idea he would seduce her into one moment of intimacy then leave afterwards for London. Justin returns three years later to learn that his wife, now known as Ria, is trying to warm up to men when she attends the balls. When he left, he gave her money and respect, not to mention his estate. She is a wellborn lady, with a title. He has his pride and will not allow her to find love with another. Victoria had not planned on losing her virginity to a man she thought she hated until she actually was in close proximity with him. She has survived three years without him, with a crushing blow she has never forgotten after he suddenly left. It will take his whole heart to prove he really does want her in his life. With time running out, can Justin save their union before it is too late?
Lessons From a Courtesan is like a simmering pressure cooker that begins slowly then heats up the passion for Victoria and Justin. I love how their chemistry builds up. Jenna Petersen does not miss a beat with this romance. She fashions unique characters that the reader really begins to care about. One minute they are cold, then hot, and the situation really makes the read a page-turner. I love the energy Victoria gives off and how she stands her ground to Justin. Ms. Petersen lends hidden emotions to Justin keeping this reader entertained, anxious about his next move. With crisp dialogue, remarkable writing, and a romance that lasts through the ages, this is an extraordinary read.
