Captain Patti O'Shay goes by the book. She is tough and does not allow anyone or anything to get in her way, especially when she is assigned to a case. When her husband is found murdered it gets personal.

Detective Spencer Malone is not only a detective under Patti’s command, but her nephew and godson. Part of a New Orleans Police Department family dynasty, he works with Patti on the case to find the victim with no hand.

Patti is still not over the shock of her husband’s death. So much has happened with his death and hurricane Katrina; she wonders will life, and New Orleans, ever be the same. After she is called upon when a skeletal remain is found, it becomes personal when her husband’s police badge is found beside the victim’s bones. It appears the serial killer is given the title, ‘handyman.’ After two years, the serial killer still has not been found nor has Patti’s grief softened. Thirty years she shared with Sammie. Concentrating on her work, she searches through the Handyman’s files and is able to speak to Yvette; a dancer who has some secrets of her own that Patti intends to unravel. She knows she can rely on Spencer and the other cops, but this time she must follow her instincts, if she wishes to get the truth about her husband’s murder before the handyman strikes again.

Last Known Victim is a story where this reader could feel and share in the sadness, not only in the loss of Patti’s husband, but with the victims of the hurricane. With a myriad of characters, along with the New Orleans setting, and aftermath of the hurricane that really set the story off, Erica Spindler sketches a novel that excels. One can practically relive the devastation that lies within the city of New Orleans as all the mystery and intrigue unfold in this suspense thriller that grabs hold of the audience like a magnet. Ms. Spindler incorporates twist and turns into this dynamite read leaving the reader amazed.
