Robin McKenna has made something of her life in spite of the fear that clings to the back of her mind. Losing her friends seven years ago hurt, but she kept going. Losing Will hurt the most and he is still in her thoughts. She hopes that she will not have to live in fear again the way she did before. Will she get her second chance at love without a mad man getting in her way again?

Will Hooper knows that he is good at messing things up. His job as a cop keeps him almost too busy at times. However, there are cases that need to be solved and Will puts himself completely into all of them. One case lingers in memory and keeps Robin in his heart. He wonders if he could have done something different. He does not realize that evil is lurking and time is running out.

Theodore Glen has been biding his time hoping to escape from prison. He believes he should never have been caught. It all comes down to Robin and Will and Glen's plan to get the revenge he wants. An earthquake gives him his best chance to escape and he takes it. Once out of prison, he puts his plan into action and things get crazy. Robin and Will learn to get through it together once again. Yet, doubts are still there and Will has to deal with far too much. He hopes he can stay focused but it is not easy as Robin is too close and he wants to protect her. Emotions run high and no one that was involved seven years ago is safe. It depends upon who can battle their fears the best. Otherwise, they may all be killed.

Ms. Brennan gets into the head of Theodore and weaves a very intelligent killer. I was surprised at how very smart the man is, but he needs more power than his intelligence brings. Although this book frightened me, I had to keep reading and find out what was going to happen next. It was a thrill ride that kept me guessing whether Robin and Will would survive or not. I was swept up, not only in the ravings of Theodore, but in Robin's conflicted emotions; emotions that she did not want to feel again. I was sucked into this book from the beginning to the very end. Ms. Brennan not only knows how to write a compelling book, but one that is very believable as well. The police did their best solve the crime quickly, but it still took a long time. I am impressed with Ms Brennan's talent and cannot wait to see what comes from her pen next.
