| KATIE’S TOMORROWS EILEEN DUNN BERTANZETTI ISBN# 0-7599-4331-1 January 2005 Hard Shell Word Factory www.hardshell.com E-Book Download $5.00 109 Pages Historical Inspirational Romance Rating: For Katie Shelton, life has become steadily grimmer since her family left Pennsylvania to settle in South Dakota. Finally only she and her father are left, and he is suffering from depression. Now Katie has nearly died in the fire that destroyed their little home. This leaves them dependant upon the charity of Denver Holt which Katie finds intolerable. He is handsome, kind, and worse yet a doctor. Since her mother’s death, Katie has put more faith in “granny medicine” than in “diploma” doctors. The fact she finds Dr. Holt fiercely attractive only makes matters worse. Denver Holt admires Katie’s beauty and spirit. He is distressed over her hardships. When he rescues her from the fiery ruins, he hopes he will have an opportunity to prove his love. Besides, his motherless young daughter needs a new mother. The little girl is already a staunch admirer of Katie’s having been one of her pupils in the local school. Katie finally agrees to a marriage of convenience but soon doubts her ability to live this painful lie. She feels sure her husband does not love her, which is breaking her heart! Denver and Katie are wonderful characters, vibrant, and sympathetic. The stark conditions of South Dakota winters become vividly real in this emotionally powerful romance. While there are no love scenes, the sexual tension is clearly felt and the external conflicts add to the couple’s problems. This sweet, gentle romance is a perfect example of a traditional romantic story and suitable even for teenagers. The inspirational aspects are handled subtly so they enhance the story, suitable to the time period portrayed. Katie’s Tomorrows is the sequel to Katie’s Song.
