Hayley Goldstein runs Goldy’s bakery with the help of her fourteen year old daughter, Lizzie. Her business keeps her busy, but happy, as long as her ex-husband stays far away. Along with her brilliant daughter, several pets, and a few good friends, Hayley enjoys small town life, but has yet to meet Mr. Right.
Finn Rafferty, lawyer and close friend of rock star, Tommy Stiles, does not usually take his work so personal. However, when he meets the lovely and self-sufficient Hayley Goldstein, all the rules change.
Hayley is surprised when two men representing rock legend Tommy Stiles enter her New Jersey bakery and order a unique cake. The cake is for the after-party for Tommy’s band’s concert in Atlantic City. What she does not know is that she is actually the daughter of Tommy Stiles, who has just found out about her. Hayley’s mother Jane, a noted scientist, always told her that she conceived Hayley by artificial insemination. She actually had a small fling with Tommy, who was much younger than her at the time. Now Tommy wants to get to know his daughter and granddaughter. Finn is falling hopelessly in love with Hayley and will do whatever he must to protect her from being hurt.
Just Desserts is an incredible book. I thoroughly enjoyed each page from start to finish. The wide array of characters are easily brought to life with their distinctive and colorful personalities. Finn and Hayley’s budding romance is electrifying and certainly kept me hooked. Hayley is the perfect heroine as I am sure many readers will be able to relate to her as a hard-working single mother. Barbara Bretton’s writing is impeccable, intelligent and also quite humorous at times. She has certainly gained one more fan of her books in this reader.
