In the modern world, many women find it difficult to connect their lives to Biblical
principles. Where can they find guidance to navigating the mine fields of relationships,
peer pressures, and the other challenges of modern living? JUST A SISTER AWAY
offers some answers as it seeks to fill this vacuum.

Through relating the stories of well known women from the Bible such as Ruth, Martha
and Mary, Esther, Lot’s wife and others to issues today’s woman faces, the reader is
shown parallels that defy the passage of time and the many changes that several
millennia have wrought in the way people live.  There may not have been discos and
nightclubs in Biblical Israel, but there were equal temptations and risks. There were in-
laws, conflicts and negative emotions like jealousy and greed because people are still
people.

Ms. Weems deftly takes Biblical women familiar to us all and applies their situations to
events and pressures with which today’s Christian women must deal. Although she is in
particular addressing African American women, any woman who is interested in Biblical
guidance and how to apply it to today’s world will find much to assist her in this book.

The writer’s style is friendly and approachable. Her scholarship is excellent as well. She
takes Christian teachings out of the realm of “preaching” and makes them relevant and
realistic to the twenty first century. I would recommend this book to any woman who
wants to live her life by Biblical principles or help to guide her daughters into such a path.
