January P. Farrell was the new rookie cop for the Riverton Police Department. She was both nervous and excited to finally be doing the job she had always wanted. Now if she could just survive her training officer, she would have it made.
Senior Patrolman Thaddeus Gunn was about to break a new rookie. His reputation for being tough was well deserved and his evil eye legendary. He wanted January to quit and was willing to take whatever measures necessary to make that happen.
Jan was furious with Gunn. He was obnoxious, arrogant, and spooky; but she would not let him break her. She loved her job and knew if she could survive Gunn she would be a better officer because of him. He was one of the best no matter how he treated his rookies. She felt an attraction for him even if he had crazy eyes and a bad temper. Thad did not want January to get hurt on the job, but no matter what he pulled with her she stood up to him. She had broken the walls around his heart and forced him to become human once again. They knew that they loved each other but could they come to a compromise with their careers to be together?
I found myself conflicted when it came to liking this story. While the premise of the story is really good and the action entertaining, the dialog among the character felt forced. Jan is smart and tough without being over the top. Her femininity and good heart make her character much more believable. Thad is a bit of a conundrum. His personality and emotions seem to go from one extreme to the other. They do make a good couple with Jan being a stabilizing force in their relationship. The ending is fast paced and exciting, definitely the icing on the cake.
