Bush pilot Lauren Taylor knows the dangers of fire better than most. She and her son are slowly picking up the pieces of their lives in peaceful Vermillion. She will do anything to keep him safe; very soon, she may have to.

Brad Hale fights both arson and the demons of his pasts. When he finds out there is a possibility that an arsonist he has been after may be in Vermillion, he jumps at the chance to investigate.

Lauren Taylor lost someone precious in a fire once; she refuses to do so again. When she thinks the Boy Next Door arsonist is at her own back door, she wastes no time calling for help. What she gets is FBI agent Brad Hale, a man who reawakens feelings she thought died with her firefighter husband. However, BND, aka "the Ghost", has the stage set for a brand new play where he and the flames will take center stage. He will not let anyone stand in the way, not Brad, Lauren, or even her innocent son. Soon, fires rage in the forest, and between Lauren and Brad, to become an Inferno.

The author gives the reader the point of view of many of the characters. However, the arsonist stands out, chillingly innocent at times, easily gaining the trust of a young boy because he has never grown up himself, and at yet other times ruthlessly evil. Lauren and Brad are brave but human, making them all the more heroic. The other secondary characters are quirky, funny, and realistically written; they are the ones that make you root for the entire town as they come together to save their homes. Inferno is suspenseful, but also heartwarming because the couple just seems to be a perfect fit in Vermillion.
