James Mckie is off to his dream job on Mars. Having completed his schooling as a geologist, he cannot wait to get started. He will miss his family and friends but expects to make new friends along the way. James is truly after new adventures.

Janice Keegan is a sweet person. She is an aerologist who loves what she does. She blushes whenever James is around but is not sure what to do with her feelings. She wonders what it will take to make James notice her.

Earth is becoming overpopulated and scientists are working on getting Mars ready for human habitation. They hope to find resources in the mines to send back to earth. James is excited about his new job and hopes he will do it well, but leaving his family and friends for three years is difficult for him. While on one of his expeditions, he finds something in a cave. He wonders what it could mean not only for him but also for the whole world. A sand storm keeps him from returning to camp immediately. While waiting out the storm, he finally realizes that there is more that he wants to do with his life so he needs to start thinking more clearly.

Science fiction is one of my favorite genres. The thrill of a new world is what Mr. Chapman gives us in this book. Although right now none of what happens is possible, there is always the possibility of it happening some day. That appealed to me because I could visualize it all happening and it seemed so wonderful! Mr. Chapman opens up new ideas and creates a fascinating place.
