Rebecca Gilmore gave up on finding love when her high school sweetheart stopped calling and moved away without telling her. Now a Private Investigator, she is working to prove her client is innocent. The problem is, as an ex-cop convicted of executing his family, the marshals are hot on his trail. Then she bumps in to the marshal of her dreams. But, can she trust him after so many years.
Marshal William Coulter is chasing a monster. How can a man murder his own children? And how can Rebecca defend him the way she does? But she is no longer the girl he loved. She did not even dump him, she just refused to take his calls. Her mother had to tell him when Rebecca started seeing someone else.
The chemistry is still there, but neither Will nor Rebecca fully trust the other. When Rebecca starts receiving violent warnings to stay away from her case, even Will has to agree that something is going on. But can he protect her, keep them both alive, and keep his job?
This is a lovely story where even love has its work cut out. With each of them blaming the other for their long ago break-up, trust is not strong on either list. Working against each other, while trying to keep each other safe, is a fine tight rope to walk and an even finer one to write. Ms Trent has given us a sweet romance that will warm even the coldest of hearts.
