Zoe Chandler is a writer and she has decided to seclude herself for the summer and finish her current book. She is writing an expose about a very wealthy art collector who it seems has some stolen art in his collection. She gets her first look at Nick Mirovic not long after she arrives, and finds herself filled with instant, panting lust.
Nick Mirovic has one plan; keep himself alive. He did some time as a civilian interpreter in Kosovo and had some very bad experiences with a man named Harry. Now Harry is on his way up the political ladder and Nick knows he will be gunning for him. Even though the blonde next door is attractive and makes more than his hormones stand up and sing, he is not about to get involved with her since she could be a plant by Harry in order to kill him.
When two lawyers show up and offer Zoe money not to publish her book, she tells them to take a hike. However, they do not leave without threatening her, and Zoe becomes concerned for her business partner and calls him. Between the two of them they decide that she needs to hire a bodyguard, but she has no idea on how to do that. Finally, she decides to see if the hunk next door would be willing to help her out, even though he was less than welcoming when she introduced herself. Fortunately, Nick has overheard what had happened the first time the two lawyers arrived and decides for once to listen to his hormones. However, he is still far from trusting her. It is not long before they are setting the sheets on fire, but it still takes a while before Nick realizes she is not working with Harry and begins to give Zoe some level of trust. By then they have worse problems because Harry has decided it is time to take Nick out, and now Nick has to find a way to keep both Zoe and himself alive.
Hot Property is one hot book! I loved it! Ms. Johnson has once again paired the perfect couple. I loved Zoe’s zest for life and her willingness to not let things get her down. I think she was the perfect partner both in and out of bed for Nick, who had allowed his emotions to basically freeze after what happened in Kosovo. The suspense is riveting and kept this reader glued to the pages well into the early morning hours. The author did an excellent job of portraying Nick’s feelings and why he felt that way, and then how Zoe helped him thaw them out again. The ending was everything a reader could have hoped for, and I am very much looking forward to Ms. Johnson’s next release!
