Raymond Prince is living the good life. He is a very successful owner and operator of several car dealerships and is, unfortunately, the kind of man who will do anything for a sale. He wants to keep the life that he leads, as long as his wife does not find out. It will come back to bite him though, and he has no idea what he just got himself into.

Clarence “Woody” Woods loves his job at the Trade Winds Yacht Club. Boats are his passion and working on the docking area is something he loves. He is very likeable and well respected, yet he feels like something is missing. He dreams of one-day sailing around in his boat, the Sea Sponge, but he thinks he will do it all alone. He wishes it would be otherwise but sees no possibilities in sight.

His wife, Sandy, catches Raymond with another woman in a car. She is furious and turns him into a fish. He is now literally swimming with the fishes. Woody is trying to help a member of the yacht club by teaching him not only how to run his yacht but how to catch fish as well. The guy falls asleep and Woody, left on his own, catches Raymond and then wonders what he has done. Woody is interested in a girl named Madalina, who works as a waitress at the club. He is not sure how to get her attention other than to offer her a ride home. So Woody asks Raymond for help. Woody can wish for anything and have it granted, but he has no idea what his wishes will get him, nor what the outcome of it all will be. Will everything be all right or will Woody mess up his life?

This humorous retelling of the Fisherman and His Wife is one that will stick with you for a while. It is updated very well for today’s society. I found myself laughing quite often because Raymond kept pushing stuff on Woody and would not listen to reason. The idea of wanting more is true of most of us, but I really liked the way Woody always seemed to go for the more simple things in life. Ms. May told a story that can be lived out anywhere and is easy to relate to. Woody needs to figure out what truly matters to him in the end. Being one who loves reading fairy tales, I was truly pleased and impressed with this book.
