Annora MacKay has lived the past three years in Dunncraig castle under the thumb of her cousin Donnell. The only reason she stays is that it is her job to be nursemaid to a five year old girl who lives there. The girl is the daughter of the former Laird of the keep.
James Drummond, the true and rightful Laird of Dunncraig, has been branded an outlaw and has been on the run for the last three years. He was accused of killing his wife Mary. His accuser is now sitting as Laird of his home and lands. He has come back to Dunncraig to clear his good name, find the person responsible for his wife’s death, and to rescue his daughter from Donnell MacKay.
Annora and James find themselves on the same side of a battle they must win. They are both seeking answers to the truth behind all the mystery and lies surrounding Dunncraig. Together Annora and James find not only the answers to the questions they seek but a passion that burns so hot it could consume them both if they are not careful. But will their trust and passion for each other be enough to help see them through the trials they must face to clear James’s name?
Highland Wolf is a wonderful continuation of the Murray family. This book is such a wonderful mix, of love, suspense, and triumph of good over evil. The characters of Annora and James are wonderfully thought out and well written. Hannah Howell has once again created that Scottish old world feel that pulls you right into the time period she is writing about. It is a great story even if this is your first book you have read about the Murray family or if you have read them all.
