Tessa is in a dead-end relationship with her boss, Congressman David Weymouth. She feels like his dirty little secret since no one but close friends and family knows about them. David ends the relationship, and she needs time and distance to recover.
Jamie Doyle is tired of his assigned slot in the Doyle family. As the second son, he is the fisherman, but he longs for a pub of his own and a woman to love.
When Tessa is dumped by her long-time lover and boss, she travels to Ireland to get some perspective and meets the charming Jamie Doyle. When Tessa brings her unusual souvenir home, her life definitely becomes more interesting.
This author really has a gift for dialogue. I could hear the Dublin brogues in the people that Tessa meets on vacation and in the Doyle family. What a colorful and lively family, and so typically Irish, with the mother hanging on for dear life to her favorite son. Tessa is a wonderful character who clearly deserved better than she got with David, and Jamie is her reward, despite his messy habits. There are several subplots that add to the story; Brigid and Anto’s romance, Imogen’s affair and the over the top Bar/Bat Mitzvah, Maureen’s mission to bring her son back to Ireland and Tessa’s political campaign. You will have a hard time putting this humorous and touching book down.
