Princess Isabella Chastaine ran for her life after she saw her parents assassinated before her eyes. She was able to escape capture and get to England to await help. She is determined to get back to Leaudor and avenge her family.
Simon Rothmore, Earl of Merrick, is a British Agent and one of the best for the Prince Regent. He has been sent to find the Princess and secure her to safety. Little does he know that betrayal is behind every bend.
Isabella has recruited Simon to help her regain her rightful inheritance, the throne of Leaudor, a small country near France. Faced with nothing but their faith and loyalty to themselves and their country, the two must journey and complete a sacred quest to regain hold of the Leaudor. Surprises and betrayals abound with life and death taking on new meaning with each day, but the determined duo prevail on to uncover the truth.
This is an on the edge of your seat historical suspense story filled with everything imaginable. I loved that it has all the elements that any romance reader will enjoy. The question of loyalty to country and to oneself is also a great factor. I also enjoyed the idea of a country with an Eastern Religion based in Europe too. Martial arts and meditation were not common in this era, although we are now used to it and the power of righteousness. This has that strong female lead that we modern readers can identify with; picture Lara Croft in Tomb Raider with an historical twist, and our hero helps save the day and gets the girl with the blessing of England. I can just imagine this story up on the silver screen and definitely give it my thumbs up.
