Paranormal Romance
Rating: 4 Cups

Victoria Sasser, Tory, is a certified counselor who tries to help women who have been victimized. She retrieves an old book with no ending. The town of Heatherfield is just a fictitious town created by its author, Destiny Paige, but not to Tory after she discovers the book and begins reading it. Soon it appears Tory might need the counseling when she is transported into a different time.

Jake Benjamin is a scarred war veteran trying to erase the invisible scars that haunt his dreams. He carries much sorrow in his heart since serving in the war. The compassionate and loving man lives in the mountains, staying to himself, but once he meets Tory, things look differently for him.

In no time Tory is transported back to the 1940’s where she encounters scarred Jake. Believing she is dreaming, Tory does not understand how her car accident sent her back in time. Jake finds Tory wandering in the woods and takes her to his home. She finds it hard to believe she is in the storybook town of Heatherfield. While trying to find her way back to reality Tory forms a deep friendship with Jake that soon develops into much more. Spirits seem to be pushing them together. As much as she wishes to return to the present, Tory feels she has more to fight for if she stays with Jake. In addition, Jake has a feeling Tory can help to heal his wounds.

Heatherfield yields a great plot, with complex characters that keep the story moving at a steady pace. I was deeply moved by Jake and what he has suffered during the war. Tory is a refreshing woman who had me on the edge-of-my-seat wondering her outcome in this story with the past and the present. M. Jean Pike weaves a spellbinding page-turner read. The story is beautifully told in this paranormal romance. Everything appears so genuine and there were times I could share in all the ambience of events that she paints beautifully throughout the story. It is a delightful story that captivates the reader.
