Nova Granger has been with the Network since she was sixteen. Now twenty-three, she is an effective agent, but sometimes a bit of a loose cannon, particularly where abused children are concerned. She is very self-contained, and no one in the Network is very close to her.
Dez Luttino is a very effective agent, and a bit of a ladies man. He came to the Network at seventeen when his computer hacking skills brought him and his friend Justine to the agency’s attention.
When Nova gets promoted, she gets freedom that she never had before, a new apartment and car, and the freedom to leave the facility on her downtime. Unbeknownst to her, she also has a new mentor, her old team leader, Dez. Dez has been instructed to do the impossible; get close to Nova. Always attracted to the fiery redhead, this is no hardship, but they soon fall in love and she still does not know his directive. A high profile case puts that out of everyone’s mind when a young girl’s life is at stake.
This is a very suspenseful story with interesting characters and a lot of action. Readers should be warned that there are numerous and sometimes graphic descriptions of child abuse and scenes in a brothel that caters to pedophiles. These scenes can be very upsetting. The Network is a super secret organization that seems to almost hold its employees prisoner. I found this a bit disturbing. The author provides a very good organizational chart and describes the workings of the agency well. The main plot was pretty engrossing, as was the subplot of the enslaved girls, and I liked how it was all tied together in the end.
