Cat has never met anyone like herself; she is half human and half vampire. She always was different from anyone in her small community and between her grandparents’ strict upbringing and her mother’s hatred of all vampires; she now spends her spare time killing the undead.
Bones is an over two-hundred-year-old vampire. He makes his living as a bounty hunter, and Cat is seriously affecting his business. There is no way a mere human should be killing as many vampires as she is.
A half vampire and an ancient vampire team up to find the kidnapper of young women in Cat’s home state of Ohio. Cat needs help and Bones is looking for the same killer. They are a great team if they do not kill each other first.
I just loved this new take on the vampire slayer novel. Cat has been isolated and conditioned by her mother. She is told that she is half monster and has to eliminate vampires. Nice mother who sends her young daughter out to hunt monsters while she stays safely at home. Cat has no friends and her only relationship turned into date rape. Bones is an ancient vampire and a lot more emotional than your average vamp. He is actually the first to acknowledge the feelings between himself and Cat. The love scenes are very exciting. Their goal of finding Hennessy and his ring of kidnappers takes them into places that you will not expect and quite a few action scenes that will leave you breathless. The characters are very well drawn, I loved Cat and Bones, and they make a great couple. The other vampires are more like real people than the monsters found in other books. In actuality the humans are more monstrous than the vamps, and that includes Cat’s mother. This is an excellent start to what I hope will be a long running series.
