GUARDIAN’S REALM: THE COMBAT
April 14, 2009
Shape-Shifter/Vampire/Urban Fantasy Paranormal
Rating: 4 Cups
It makes Gabrielle Langston sick thinking of her sister Linna wallowing in the filth of San Francisco’s streets, but Linna is all she has left. Searching the streets nightly for her finally pans out, but Linna is far worse off than Gabrielle could have ever imagined.
The duty of a Guardian is to watch over the innocent who have been targeted by vampires against the Sacred Laws, and Davin McCain takes his responsibilities very seriously. By some miraculous twist of fate, he has become Gabrielle’s guardian, and for the first time in centuries his heart takes precedence over his duty.
Gabrielle can barely wrap her mind around the fact that there are actually real vampires, but finding out that Linna is one, nearly shatters her. Unfortunately the shocks just keep coming when Gabrielle realizes that she is the prime target of Spike, the vampires’ leader. Her only salvation comes in the form of a gargoyle/guardian/the hottest man she has ever laid eyes on. However strong her desire for Davin, Gabrielle refuses to give up on her sister, and despite his protests, she will sacrifice herself if it means saving Linna.
You would have to be made of stone not to find this story as heroic and sweet as it is blistering hot and erotic. Gabrielle may be small in stature, but her heart and courage are monumental, if at times naïve. Davin is fantastically fierce and fallible as he allows his heart to overrule his head and gives in to desires that are sure to ignite the coolest of readers. Waiting for Book Two in the Guardian Series is going to be tough, but I am sure it will be well worth it.
