Andrea Alexander was raised in New Mexico on Flying A Ranch. Andrea’s mother was ill and died when Andrea was about eight. But Andrea was always with her dad Charles and learned early how to rope, ride, and pretty much anything that had to be done. Her father’s belief there was gold on the ranch kept him from hiring others. The Diamond C ranch is a neighboring ranch owned by Chet Houston and sons. Andrea’s father and Chet were friends, and Andrea followed the young Jake Houston around like a puppy when she was younger. But when Andrea turned seventeen, her father sent Andrea to live with her Aunt and Uncle in New York, thinking she would be better there. Now, a year later, Andrea is on her way back to the Flying A Ranch because of her father’s death.

Jake Houston joined up with the Army young and soon he is working in special forces as a Texas Ranger. Just recently Jake became hurt and decided to recoup at the Diamond C Ranch. Jake was shocked to learn his father is in a wheelchair after an accident on a horse and his father had entered into an agreement with the Vega family, and entered Jake into an engagement with their daughter Lupita to bring the two Ranches together. Jake was not happy, but because he loved the Diamond C and his father, he would go through with it. But when Andrea Alexander comes back to New Mexico, he is shocked at what a beautiful woman she has become, and knew for sure trouble was in store for them all.

Jake knew that Flying A was not fit for a woman alone, even though Andrea had her cousin with her. So both Jake and his father insisted Andrea and Clarence stay with them at the Diamond C ranch. In the mean time Andrea has found the map to the treasure her father believed was there. Andrea also knows it could prove who killed her father. But when Jake’s fiancée and family come to the Diamond C for an engagement party, things started happening. Andrea could not help but notice the evil actions of Lupita and her brother. When the map goes missing, Andrea is almost sure who took it. But bad things have been going on longer than anyone knew, and Andrea has no idea she is caught up in an evil plan that could cause her to not only lose the ranch, but her life.

Ms. Morehouse has created an outstanding tale that takes you to the old west in New Mexico. With artist touch, this author described the area and time with vivid clarity. Interesting characters and an exceptional plot keeps this story moving at a steady pace. I loved how the author keeps you informed; yet could still surprise. Carefully woven all of this together then add the sensual romance scenes and you have the perfect historical romance, that we all know and love. A dynamite read.
