Mitzi Hagerty has always lived in the shadow of her sister, Julie. Mitzi’s mother and Julie always seemed to have problems, and Mitzi is the one cleaning up their messes. They talk down to Mitzi until Mitzi finally had no self confidence at all. On a trip planned to the Grand Canyon, Mitzi decides to gather her courage and tell Julie exactly how she feels. But Julie is a no show, and Mitzi finds herself alone, wondering what to do, when she meets Joe Bloom.

Joe Bloom has been running from the past for a while. His ex-wife died a few years ago, and although he loved her, Joe has never known the wild passionate kind of love that one always dreams about. One morning, when the loneliness gets bad, he finds himself up on the edge of the canyon, where he meets an extraordinary woman. Joe has never been that confident with women, but there is something about Mitzi Hagerty that brings out deep desires.

Joe and Mitzi’s first meeting is very unconventional; as they are on the edge of the canyon making love when they barely know each other. Joe knows there is something very extraordinary about Mitzi, but she has been beaten down by her family for so long that Joe wonders if he will ever get through to her. Joe has one chance because Mitzi is leaving in the morning. Mitzi is enthralled by Joe, but she is sure once he gets to know her, he will see her as the plain Jane she is. However, Mitzi wants what little happiness she can get before she goes home. Suddenly things turn around, and Joe and Mitzi find themselves with more time to know each other. Was their first taste of passion just a fluke or could there be a future for these two misfits?

This is one exceptional romance. A sort of Cinderella story that makes your heart skip a beat and you cheer on the good guys while booing the bad ones. These characters were cleverly written with steady dialog and intense sexual tension. This is one of those feel good stories that makes you sigh when it is all over and then start reading it again. But do not be fooled by the sweetness, for the sex scenes in this story are volcanic. A great read.
