Laney Winters wants to rethink her romance writer career especially after a shift in her lifestyle. At forty-one she finds herself pregnant, her husband filing for divorce, and her editor requesting a new book in three months.
Dr. Jake Montgomery is new in town. He is tops in his field on studying patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. After meeting Laney, he wonders can he teach her the real meaning of love and starting over.
When Laney learns she is pregnant she can hardly wait to tell her husband, Tom. Finding him in their bedroom humping his secretary is unbelievable. Not only is Tom preparing to divorce her for his younger secretary, but he is taking the house. Laney is determined to take him for every dime she can. Just because he is a foremost divorce attorney, and believes no one can tarnish him, she is about to prove him wrong. After Jake moves into town, a couple of Laney’s aunts find a way to toss the two together but Lainey could care less about mending her broken heart. She has the baby to think about, then again being close to Jake could indeed wake her senses to the true meaning of love.
Mary Eason writes stories from the heart that speaks to the reader. Every time I read one of her stories, my heart leaps with joy. The down-to-earth mature characters are so real; they feel as if they are my next door neighbors. This well-written tale has dialogue that moves at a great pace lifting the reader completely into the storyline. The ex-husband and secretary are a piece of cake, like most of the cheaters in this world who normally end up getting their comeuppance. Forty Something is wonderful and I loved the aunts. I found this outstanding tale enormously entertaining.
