Darby Vaughn is America's top dating expert. She is happily married and is the stepmother of two great kids. She has her own radio show; a regular spot on television and a successful book. Her husband is a PR specialist and she truly believes they have the perfect life. So what is she to do when she finds out on national television that he is filing for divorce?
Holt Gregory is a very successful divorce lawyer, one who actually stands by his beliefs. When he first meets Darby he knows that he will do everything in his power to help her. He sees that she is the one who was wronged and has had her entire life yanked from her in one blinding moment. But as he gets to really know her, will he be able to keep his emotions from interfering with her case?
Darby catches her husband in a lie about a business trip. When she starts digging deeper, she realizes that this has been going on for months. Before she leaves for the last leg of her book tour, he tells her how proud he is of her and how much he loves her. When she appears on the Today show and gets the news that he has filed for divorce, her world comes crashing down. Now the only way to save her reputation and get her life back on track is to get right back out there and get back to work. Her lawyer, Holt, thinks she should not go for custody of the children but goes along with her plan. He gets her to open up about herself and finds himself falling in love with her. But will it be able to work between them? Will he ruin his career for the sake of her love?
Darby is a strong, independent woman and that is the type of heroine I love to read about. At first, I had a hard time with the beginning of the book, reading about the betrayal and the hurt. I was not sure I could finish the story but I gathered my courage and finished in one sitting. I am glad I did not give up. This is a story of fear of getting hurt and having your heartbroken but still finding it within yourself to carry on. Ms. Daily is truly a relationship expert and she puts her years of experience in this work. I urge every woman who has been hurt and betrayed to run out and pick up a copy.
