FELICITY STRIPPED BARE
Rating: 4 Cups
Felicity’s life has always been a struggle. She is dyslexic and is extremely self-conscious about it. People have always ridiculed her and called her stupid, but she is trying to improve herself with a tutor.
Daniel is a lawyer with his father’s firm, but hates it. As a sideline, he and his best friend renovate and sell houses and he will soon be doing that full time.
Felicity is about to be homeless. Her new landlord is evicting all of the tenants in the building to renovate it for sale. She is even more devastated since she has been dating Daniel and he never mentioned it; that, and the fact that her job as a waitress in a strip club does not leave her the extra cash for a first or last month’s rent. She has nowhere to go.
There is a lot more to this story than on the surface. Daniel and Felicity have overbearing fathers in common, but at least Daniel's loves him. Both are trying to make a career of something they love, but are finding it difficult. Felicity's struggle to survive shows her strong character, despite her short stint as a stripper. This is a real Cinderella story and Elise makes a great fairy godmother figure. The author does a good job describing how out of place Felicity feels in Daniel;s world. I loved Felicity's nickname for the nasty Deirdra, who combines the stepsisters and the stepmother in one jealous woman. The other characters are very vivid and well drawn. The plot has enough twists and turns to make the story interesting and the love scenes are very well written.
