Jessica Beckett is the survivor of horrible abuse as a child, and both the physical and mental scars are still evident. Her work as a bounty hunter is a strange sort of therapy; she brings lowlifes to justice without the rules and paperwork her best friend, the CPD cop Samantha, has to deal with.
Payton Archer is a washed up NFL quarterback with a drinking problem. He has turned himself into a hermit in the Alaskan wilderness. His sister and his niece are the most important people he has left in his life.
Seventeen year old Nikki Archer feels stifled by her mother and her rules and is determined to get some freedom. Her online friend, Ivana, offered her a way out, and Nikki is going to take it. But Ivana is not a teenage girl or her friend, and Nikki ends up in the hands of Global Harvest. Nikki’s family enlists the aid of Jessica, Samantha, and Alexa, plus Jess’s mysterious ‘intern,’ Seth, to find the girl before it is too late.
This book had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Jess and Payton are two people who have been damaged by life, true survivors. The subject matter can be very disturbing, and this is not a book for the faint of heart. Those that enjoy a real thriller of a suspense novel will not be able to put this one down until the very end. I particularly liked the feisty Jess, one of the strongest women characters I have found, even in this genre.
