Miranda Albright knows she is not like other women. Unlike the women of her era she wants more than just a proper marriage, she wants passion and love. For years she has watched her neighbor Ethan Hamon, Earl of Rothschild make love with whomever his current paramour is out in the open on his property. She has always wished she could be the woman he was making love to, though she thinks it will never happen as she believes he does not really see her.
Ethan Hamon, Earl of Rothschild is a rake, no doubt about it, and he knows this about himself. He believes because his father was never able to be faithful to his mother and he watched his mother drown her sorrows in a bottle, that he too will never be able to be faithful to one woman. Contrary to what Miranda thinks, Ethan has noticed her, he just figures he can never have her because she is a proper young lady, and a virgin.
When Miranda realizes her mother is going to spend what little money they have left on dresses and a season for one of her sisters, she knows she must do something or they will all end up in the street. Since her father gambled away most of their money before his death, she knows drastic measures must be taken. Miranda decides to go to Ethan and make a deal with him; she will give him herself one time per week for 3 months and he will pay for seasons for each of her three younger sisters. She thinks that if one of her sisters marries someone wealthy then they will all be saved, though she does want it to also be for love. She also has an ulterior motive in that she will finally be made love to by Ethan as she has wanted for years. There is only one problem, it is not long before her heart is engaged and she is in love with Ethan. However, Ethan does not believe he can ever love or be faithful to only one woman. Will Miranda be able to prove to him otherwise, or will she lose everything important to her?
Everything Forbidden has everything a love story must have to be great! There is of course wonderfully graphic lovemaking, a beautiful historical setting, a spunky heroine, as well as, a really debauched hero. All of these traits make Everything Forbidden a book to be savored. I really enjoyed reading about Miranda, who is definitely ahead of her time when it comes to thoughts on relationships. Ethan and his confusion with how he truly feels about Miranda, and how he handles it and Miranda had me on the edge of my seat at times. The family relationships and dynamics are realistic as well, rather than storybook or fairytale-like which I appreciated. This is one book you do not want to miss!
