Art gallery owner, Abigail Fairfax, is a living, breathing example of fine Boston breeding,
poise, and cool. Growing up in a privileged atmosphere, she is used to the finer things
in life. When she meets a cowboy named EZ, she begins to wonder if it is not time to
broaden her horizons to include something a little more down to earth.
Ezekiel Zachariah ‘EZ’ McAllister, an officer with the Customs Bureau, is brought in to
investigate a ring of smugglers. He never bargained on finding the very feisty Ms.
Fairfax so attractive. He will guard his heart at all costs because he has been burned
once before by someone a lot like Abigail.
Abigail’s apartment is right across the street from a suspected smuggler of fine Eastern
European art, making it the perfect spot for a home base for the Customs Bureau.
However, when she meets EZ for the first time, she is tempted to refuse. She has never
met a more aggravating man with his Texas sized ego. Unfortunately for her, he also
comes with Texas sized charm. From the first, the two are antagonistic towards each
other but that barely conceals their mutual attraction. Unfortunately Abigail is also a
suspect, and EZ refuses to make the same mistake about a woman again.
The fire and ice between the two main characters along with the action and mystery
made this a highly enjoyable book. The author kept the witty banter between the them real enough that it did not become forced at any time. Their relationship progresses at
just the right pace, culminating in a satisfying ending that tied up all the knots. I found
myself wanting to read more about the secondary characters as well, so I was excited to
find that this was a prequel to Justin and Pandora’s story.
