Pauline Sokol, former registered nurse, now turned medical insurance fraud investigator, with Scarpello & Tonelli Insurance Agency, has a new assignment. She is to go undercover as a RN at TLC, Air and Land, who seems to be making way too much money and appears not to be on the up and up.
Jagger taught Pauline a lot about investigating medical frauds. He likes to keep an eye on Pauline, who never believes she is in danger. She is his sweet damsel in distress.
ER Dano seems to capture almost everyone’s attention, except for Jagger. He will be the one riding along with Pauline.
Pauline has landed a job as an undercover RN with a land-and-air ambulance company. Her main squeeze, Jagger, who makes her heart pound like a locomotive, tells her to practice her driving skills. This is one job that does not seem appealing since she left the successful nursing field because of a major burnout. Still Jagger will be working undercover with her so it should not be that bad. It appears there are some suspicious activities going on with TLC, costing the insurance companies big bucks. Jagger informs her that this is the biggest case she has received. Huge billing frauds and someone is pocketing lots of dough. Jagger seems to know quite a bit about the case and Pauline says she does not wish him along. Just being in close quarters with him will cause an abundance of heat. She soon learns she will be riding along ER Dano who appears to be a lifer and more burnt out on his job than she was when she left the nursing field. One thing is for certain, Jagger does not seem to care that she and ER Dano will be riding with each other. After a homicide occurs, things shift in the case that has Pauline wondering if she is on the list to be erased. Perhaps this is one time she is happier knowing Jagger is nearby.
Dead on Arrival is the sixth book in the Pauline Sokol Mystery Series and I must admit this one held me in suspense as much as Nip, Tuck, Dead. Pauline is such a likeable person with a great personality, I felt as if she lived right next door. Jagger, well, he has an abundance of sex appeal that drips off the pages. He can certainly live next door. And in this episode she has another hunk this time, calling her, Nightingale. Lori Avocato takes characters and spins a series that keeps ticking. Pauline’s roomies once again add some witty moments to the story. The cases she creates for Pauline are excellent and realistic. I love the way she sprinkles a bit of humor, as well as romance, along the way. She sketches a mystery that is more than extraordinary and I highly recommend it.
