Sir Robert Breton is a knight to Prince Edward and has just been awarded the position of Captain of the mounted guard for the Crusades. He is wary of Lady Eldswythe and any member of the Earl of Crenalden's family, but finds he needs her help. It comes as a shock to him to find that he wants her for his own.

Lady Eldswythe, daughter to the Earl of Crenalden, is known as a horsewitch. She wishes people would think of her as a healer instead. When she is called upon to help her father's enemy, she agrees and finds herself thinking of him more often than not. What could she possibly be thinking?

Sir Robert is ordered by the King to stay in England when an old enemy begins to march across England. When Lady Eldswythe is granted her father's lands in his absence, it is to protect her home from being taken from her. Now they find themselves heading into danger from the enemy and from falling in love. Will this heal the harsh feelings between their families or will it rip them apart?

This was a delightful read. I loved the character of Eldswythe, such a feisty lady at times, yet tender and caring when it was called for. Sir Robert is definitely her balance, with wit and humor and fierce loyalty when it is needed most. Ms. Dennis brought the characters and the storyline together in a smooth flow and it kept going right through to the end. This is one historical that I will surely read again and again.
