Serena is a lovely widow living a restricted life. One night, however, during Carnival, she meets a handsome sailor who gives her an exceptional hot and sexy night to remember. When they meet again, she agrees to an affair only if they can remain anonymous. As her life becomes joyfully exciting, Serena is faced with eviction by the son of her late landlord.
Dante had lived for the sea, but with the death of his father, he now has the responsibility to keep his family home and restore the family fortune. He can not wait to bring his mysterious lover to his home, but first Dante must get the religious widow who lives in the upstairs apartment out of his palazzo.
Soon Serena and Dante realize that there is more to each other than they first believed. While they each fight for what they want, the two volatile lovers are also finding a way to move through all the surprises their desires bring them.
Serena and Dante are a great couple and watching their love affair grow is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. I love how Serena’s thoughts change as she struggles between quiet widow and sexy lover. This excuses some of her decision making and it is very entertaining to watch the roguish Dante get his comeuppance. While not always explicit, the book is definitely erotic, and I found the sex scenes thrilling—the gondola scene is to die for. The communication is fairly modern, but the dialog works well for me. I whole heartedly recommend this book and will add Ms Byrne to my "auto-buy" list.
