Natalie Greco feels out of place in her family although her boyfriend sure seems to fit in and that drives her crazy. She is not involved in the family business, yet it seems like something is missing. When she meets fellow professor Angus Holt, she finally feels accepted and goes with him to teach a class at the prison. New possibilities are just what she needs right now. She has no idea how wrong things will go from there.

Angus Holt loves helping educate the men in prison. Being a lawyer is what he loves most and his clinics refresh him everyday. He feels like he is getting somewhere in the politics he deals with constantly. Meeting Natalie is wonderful. He would love to get to know her better but her boyfriend stands in the way. At least he can work with her at the prison.

Natalie thinks teaching is wonderful but she cannot keep her students from searching the Internet. She does her best to keep their attention focused on the lessons, but feels she is getting nowhere. The opportunity suggested by Angus Holt is something that Natalie finds wonderful. While teaching her class at the prison, a riot breaks out and when she tries to save a life of a guard, he gives her a last message to take to his family. Once she passes the message on, things seem to go down hill. Now, she is running for her life from the cops because no one will listen to her. She has to solve the riddle of the dead man in order to save her life.

Ms. Scottoline writes about what she knows. I am thoroughly impressed with not only the quality of writing in this book, but also by the manner in which she kept me guessing until the very end. Natalie is a character I can sympathize with because sometimes I feel out of place too. There is a fully rounded cast of characters, making this book even more fun. Everything hidden underneath the surface shows up in more ways than I thought imaginable and makes the book spellbinding. I could not get enough of this book or its characters. I definitely want to read more by this author and see what other characters and situations she can create.
